Taxonomy

Description
Non-motile coccoid cells, approximately 1 µm in diameter. Optimal growth at pH 6.0, 82-83°C. Obligate anaerobe. Thiosulfate required for growth. Heterotrophic, with growth observed on yeast extract, gelatin, casamino acids, and tryptone. Isolated from hot springs. The type species is Zestosphaera tikiterensis.
