Description

Waite et al., 2020: The description of the phylum is based on the shared characteristics of the members of its constituent classes with validly published descriptions. The phylum represents a distinct monophyletic lineage as supported by concatenated protein and 16S rRNA gene trees. The phylum contains the classes Myxococcia and Polyangia.

Oren & Garrity, 2021: The properties of the taxon are as described by Waite et al., 2020. Type genus: Myxococcus Thaxter 1892 (Approved Lists 1980).
