ABSTRACT Fluorescent in situ hybridization with a 16S rRNA probe specific for Verrucomicrobia was used to (i) confirm the division-level identity of and (ii) study the behavior of the obligate intracellular verrucomicrobium “ Candidatus Xiphinematobacter” in its nematode hosts.
